Digital Right to Work (RTW) Check – Applicant Guide
A Digital Right to Work check allows Checks Direct to verify your identity remotely using secure identity verification technology.
Checks Direct uses Credas, a UK Government-certified digital identity provider, to complete Digital Right to Work checks in accordance with current Home Office guidance.
Important – Eligibility Requirements
Checks Direct can only complete a Digital Right to Work check if you hold:
-
A valid, in-date UK passport
-
A valid, in-date Irish passport
If you do not hold a UK or Irish passport, a Digital Right to Work check cannot be completed.
In this situation, the organisation requesting your check will need to arrange an alternative Right to Work verification method, such as a Home Office share code check or manual document verification.
Full Step by Step guide can be found here
Why This Restriction Applies
UK Government regulations currently permit certified digital Right to Work checks to be carried out using UK and Irish passports only.
Applicants of all other nationalities must complete their Right to Work check using the Home Office online service or another approved method.
How the Digital Right to Work Process Works
Once the check has been initiated by the organisation requesting it, you will receive an email or SMS invitation containing a secure link.
You will then be required to:
-
Download the Credas mobile application
-
Enter your unique registration code
-
Confirm your personal details
-
Capture a live image of your passport
-
Complete identity verification within the app
-
Complete a live facial verification
As part of the verification process, you may be asked to scan the NFC chip within your passport using your smartphone. NFC chip scanning is the preferred verification method as it provides the highest level of assurance. However, alternative verification steps may be available if NFC is not supported on your device.
Once completed, the result is securely transmitted to Checks Direct and the organisation that requested your check.
What You Will Need
To complete a Digital Right to Work check, you will require:
-
A valid, in-date UK or Irish passport (physical document)
-
📱 A smartphone
-
Internet access
A device with NFC capability is recommended as this allows for enhanced passport chip verification. However, if NFC is not available, the app may provide alternative verification steps.
Scanned or photocopied documents cannot be accepted. The passport must be photographed live within the app in accordance with UK Government standards.
